Impression Kits
Not sure which impression kit to choose?
Wax Impression Kit
The OG kit created to capture your pet’s unique markings. This kit uses (you guessed it!) wax balls to create an impression of your pet’s nose or paw.
Pros:
- You have more of a hand in the final look of your pendant. Your pendant will be a direct replica of your wax ball once it has been cast. See below for examples of pendants created with the wax impression kit.
- If you mess up the first time, you can reheat the wax ball and try again as many times as you need to (or for as long as your pet is willing)
Cons:
- To create your impression pieces, I use a method called lost wax casting, where your wax impression is encased in an investment mould. The wax is then melted away or “lost”, leaving a perfect replica space for the precious metal to flow into. This means that once your pendant has been cast, there is no reclaiming your wax impression, it is gone forever, and therefore so will your pendant should you misplace it.
- Some people find it tricky to heat the wax balls up to the right temperature to work with.
Mould Impression Kit
In this kit you get a two-part silicone moulding material to create your very own keepsake mould. The mould you create will be used to “lift” the nose or paw print of your furry friend, where it is then applied to a wax ball (created by me). I will then return your mould for your safekeeping along with your finished piece.
Pros:
- You get to keep your mould forever. Therefore, should you misplace your pendant you can simply send the mould back to me to have a replacement piece made.
- If you’re looking for a pendant shaped like the images in the listing, I can make sure that your pendant is as round as possible.
Cons:
- You have less control over what your pendant looks like, as I will be the one transferring your pet’s impression onto your pendant.
- The putty cures fairly quickly, so you need to work fast. You may only have enough time to boop your dog’s snoot once. If you’re not happy with the impression, or if your mould sets before you get the chance to use it, you will need to have a replacement kit sent out at an additional cost.
Frequently asked questions about the impression kits
The moulding kit is unfortunately non-refundable once the putty has been used. If you would like a wax kit instead, you can purchase one for an additional cost.
Yes, absolutely! My impression pieces are designed to showcase your pet’s nose or paw print texture, not the outline. As long as you can see some texture on the mould, I will be able to create your piece. If you are at all unsure about whether your mould is good enough, send an image to info@rubytynanjewellery.co.uk and I can let you know.
The answer to this depends on which kit you purchased. If you purchased the wax kit, I am unfortunately not able to recreate your pendant. However, if you purchased the mould kit, and you still have your mould, I can recreate your pendant for you.
